EdMMIR.com joins Beacon Media

January 28th, 2011

Beacon Media (http://www.beaconmedia.com.au/) is a voluntary organisation that provides Christian Education Resources for all levels. When I found out about their operation, I contacted them to offer our services.

Beacon Media have a similar vision to EdMMIR.com for creating interesting and informative educational resources, and welcome the chance to add a multimedia dimension, especially animation, to their operation. There is so much scope and potential for worthwhile, informative and engaging resources with the use of multimedia animation… really, the sky’s the limit!

I will be working on various projects for free, but due to my financial situation at present, paid projects will have to take precedence.

If you wish for more information on this new move, contact us or Beacon Media at:
http://www.beaconmedia.com.au/bm/index.php?option=com_contact&view=category&catid=0&Itemid=78

Exciting opportunities for everyone concerned, here.
* Free multimedia resources for teachers or homeschooling parents to use, that could be tailor-made to their particular needs
* I get to do the stuff I’ve dreamed about doing.

Any comments, suggestions, and especially donations (to keep our resource development free!) would be most welcome.

Are you in to Historical Fiction?

August 22nd, 2008

For those who are looking for something new and different to read, that’s both entertaining and challenging, have a look at our new ebook published online, via the following link below.
The Poor Preachers. Part 1: The Commission

It’s an epic historical fictional story, set in turbulent 14th century England. It’s based on the true events and activities of reformer John Wycliffe, the “Morning Star of the Reformation”, and the powerful movement he began, known as the “Lollards”.
In this first part, the order of “Poor Preachers” are formed, inspired by Wycliffe’s message of freedom from oppressive religion, and take the message throughout the land. It focuses mainly on the exploits and struggles of two of these preachers who come from humble beginnings, but enrich people’s lives and their communities wherever they go.

You will need a PayPal account to purchase it, but at $5.00 AUD, it’s a quicker and cheaper way of getting your own copy without having to browse through a bookshop.

Let us know what you think, or if you have problems with the process etc.

Your Thoughts on Inexpensive Learning Resources

July 5th, 2008

Many schools and struggling learning institutions such as community learning centres are often strapped for cash to afford some of the high-powered and engaging material as used by big business training organisations and cashed-up industry trainers etc.

There’s an idea I’d like to try out — or at the very least, discuss it with anyone interested.

I’d like to mount some small interactive learning units (known technically as “Learning Objects”) on my website, covering a range of topics that lend themselves to multimedia. This would mainly be in the science and technology areas, because that’s my background.

For instance, I could create an interactive Flash movie on “An Introduction to Cells” where I had a large plant and/or animal cell image with rollover spots, naming the parts of the cell. Click on that part, and it brings up a window with a larger image and explanation of its function — maybe an animation of the process involved. In some cases I can create a 3D animation where appropriate.

If it’s successful, I can branch into Microbes or specialised cells in complex organisms, then Protozoons, pathogens, biological processes at the microscopic level etc etc

Schools and other low budget institutions can access the basic units for free, provided they give me useful feedback for updating. If there are some that want to develop something for their particular needs, provided they give me some of their own resources and curriculum guidelines to work in, I can make them some easy-to-use resources for free, or next-to-nothing. My remuneration could come from subscribers, banner advertising, but also from other institutions who could user the specialised resources in their curriculums. I would need to retain the copyrights myself in that case, or charge a little to surrender that copyright. I may need to charge for labour-intensive units like complex educational games.

What do you think?  Could it work?

About the EdMMIR Discussion Pages

February 29th, 2008

Hi there. I’m David.

Welcome to the EdMMIR Discussion Pages.

OK, so the title is just a fancy name for our blog, but we are interested in your feedback, not just a place to air our own views etc.

Our aim is to provide and promote creative ways of delivering education, mainly through interactive multimedia and creative writing. We hope to provide useful resources for both teachers, parents and students on all levels of education, and in as many disciplines as we can. The following posts will discuss our aims and philosophy in more detail.

Our apologies to those who visited before and returned to find us gone. There were some technical difficulties in setting up.
