Immunofluorescence.
This is an interactive simulation in Flash, using stylized graphics. It shows diagrammatically how a laboratory technician can conduct a test ("assay") on a biological sample to detect the presence of antigens (produced by pathogens.) The process involves the use of special antibodies that attach themselves to the antigens, but also attract special fluorescent material that glow under UV light.
This animation was used in a training package ("Toolbox") developed at Box Hill Institute for laboratory technicians, funded by the Australian National Training Authority. Used by permission.
